I love a good pair of leggings — don’t get me wrong. But lately, whenever I travel, I’ve been opting for wider-leg fits. I fly a couple of times of year from New York City to London (a perk of having a British significant other), and opt for overnight flights. I take off before 11 p.m., sleep as much as I can, land around 11 a.m. local time and try to stay awake the rest of the day to beat the jet lag. Flowy travel pants feel like pajamas but help me look more put-together when I land, so I can go straight to lunch. I can wash and wear them on my trip and wear them on the way back, so I get a lot of use out of them.
Earlier this year, I wore J.Crew Stratus Pants on a flight to California with an oversized sweater layered over a simple white T-shirt and flats. When I landed, I wrapped the sweater around my shoulders, popped on a pair of flip-flops and went to a winery for lunch, where someone complimented me by saying I looked like a rich mom — that is, someone with a stealth-wealth vibe. However, my J.Crew faves are sold out in a lot of sizes, so I found nine more styles in linen, satin and other fabrics that fit similarly. Check out these flowy travel pants for an effortlessly chic plane-to-lunch look.
