Body recovered after wave sweeps rock fisherman into the dangerous waters off Frazer Park

A rock fisherman has died after a wave swept him into the ocean on the Central Coast of NSW.

The 41-year-old man was knocked from the rocks at “notorious” Frazer Park fishing spot about 1.20pm on Saturday.

His body was later pulled from the water by a rescue team in a Westpac Helicopter, during a multi-agency rescue operation, NSW Police said.

The man had been wearing “a flotation device”, but a NSW Police spokesperson told 7NEWS.com.au that the device tied around his torso, and that he had not been wearing a lifejacket.

He had been fishing with friends at Snapper Point, and was swept off a lower rock platform, while his friends fished from a higher spot on the rocky point.

Surf Life Saving NSW has previously called the Snapper Point a “notorious rock fishing black-spot”.

The 41-year-old man clung to an Esky for a short time before he let go, a police spokesperson said.

One of the man’s friends also jumped into the water to try and help the 41-year-old man, but was unsuccessful.

The friend also required rescuing, and was picked up uninjured by a passing vessel, and taken to Swansea RSL Club.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
